SCS Software’s blog has been unusually busy in October 2026: two open betas, a coach preview, the first gameplay video from Iceland, a tour of Edinburgh in the UK rework and a second batch of British Columbia cities, all within three weeks. Taken together they draw the map of the next six months for Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator. Here is what was announced, what it means for mods, and what is still unknown.

1.62 is in open beta on both games

The ATS beta opened on 20 October and the ETS2 beta on 22 October. ETS2 gets new garages across every map, three DAF XG+ special editions and the Improved Material System for the Iveco S-Way; ATS gets eleven new Tourist Boards, a Route 66 centenary board and the Volvo VNL in traffic. Both are content updates rather than system changes, which is the kind of update most mods sail through. We have separate posts on each.

Coaches are coming to ETS2

On 10 October SCS showed the Scania Touring in a drive from Narvik to Andenes, in northern Norway, as a preview of the upcoming Coaches DLC. The preview covers how passenger transport will feel rather than how jobs work: a G-force indicator that rises in sharp turns and under hard braking, with passengers reacting loudly when their comfort limit is exceeded; a passenger satisfaction score that feeds into your result at the end of the journey; passengers who talk and make noise throughout the trip; and an adjustable sun visor. A separate post titled “Coaches: Tourist Jobs” covers the job side. SCS has not said whether the DLC is paid or when it arrives, and the Steam page is the place to wishlist it.

For mod users this is the biggest change of the year: a new vehicle type with its own jobs. Expect a wave of coach skins and a new category of bus mods once the DLC is out, and expect the many existing bus mods (converted from other games, driven as trucks) to stay what they are: trucks with a bus body, without the passenger systems.

Edinburgh, in the UK rework

The 21 October post is the first detailed look at Edinburgh, marked work in progress. The Old Town and the castle on Castle Rock are in, along with Princes Street landmarks: the Scott Monument and the clock tower of The Balmoral Hotel. Arthur’s Seat is visible from much of the city. Leith is the main industrial area, built around the Port of Leith, with port and construction site deliveries, and the city’s garage sits by the coast near the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home. Trams and double-decker buses are being recreated, and the Edinburgh Bus Station is being built with the Coaches DLC in mind, for picking up and dropping off passengers.

The rework matters for map mods. Any mod that edits Scotland or the UK’s road network will need an update when the reworked UK ships, because the roads it attaches to will have moved. No release date was given.

Iceland: the first drive

SCS published the first gameplay video of the Iceland DLC for ETS2 on 14 October: a drive starting in the small settlement of Seyðisfjörður and ending at Goðafoss, the “Waterfall of the Gods”. The post calls it a small glimpse of the “Land of Fire and Ice” and asks players to wishlist; it gives no release date, no city list and no word on how the island connects to the mainland. As a new map region rather than a rework, Iceland will not affect existing map mods; it will simply be new ground.

British Columbia, second batch of cities

The 13 October post for ATS adds seven cities to the ones shown in July: Cranbrook (railway heritage, the Cranbrook History Centre with its historic railcars), Valemount (North Thompson Valley, Rocky Mountain Trench views), Williams Lake (the Station House Gallery, a 1919 railway station, with a sawmill, a scrapyard and a construction equipment dealer for jobs), Prince George (where Highways 16 and 97 meet; paper mill, chemical factory, refinery and an intermodal hub), Prince Rupert (Pacific port, seafood facility, timber), Vernon (North Okanagan; agricultural dealer, yacht builder, RV dealer, beverage plant) and Bella Coola at the western end of Highway 20. Again no release date, again a wishlist link.
