About ModsDrop

ModsDrop is a file host for video game mods. It went live on 20 September 2026. I run it on my own from Hungary.

My name is Máté Geszti. Online I go by CrashMozi. I also run crashmods.com, a mod site with roughly 2,500 mods for BeamNG.drive, Farming Simulator, Euro Truck Simulator 2, GTA 5, Minecraft, The Sims 4 and a few other games. Those files need somewhere to live. ModsDrop is that place.

Why I built it

Downloading a mod is often harder than it should be. Buttons that do not download anything. Waiting pages one after another. A tab that opens behind the one you are reading. An installer instead of the file. An account you never wanted. I did not want to send my own visitors through that, so I built the plain version.

• One download button, and it leads to the file.
• One short countdown, not a chain of pages.
• The file itself, not an installer or a download manager.
• No account to download. There is nothing to sign up for and no e-mail address to hand over. Accounts exist for mod authors who upload, and that is the only thing they are for.
• The scan result, or the reason there is none, before you click.

What a file page shows

Every file has its own page at modsdrop.com/f/ followed by an eight-character code. The page shows the file name, the size, the upload date, how many times it has been downloaded, and the VirusTotal scan result.

The scan line comes with a caveat. VirusTotal does not accept files above 650 MB, and some mods are bigger than that. Those pages say so: too large to scan. A file that has just gone up may say the scan has not run yet. When a scan has run, the page shows how many engines came back clean. So not every file here has been scanned, and a clean result is a useful signal rather than a guarantee. I would rather show the real state than print a green tick on everything.

How the download works

You press Download. A short countdown runs. The page then gives you a signed link, and the file starts. That link is valid for six hours.

Downloads are resumable. If your connection drops or you close the laptop, your browser or download manager can carry on from where it stopped, as long as the link is still inside its six hours. If it has run out, open the file page again and press Download for a fresh link.

A single stream runs at full speed for the first 25 MB, then it is capped at 6 MB/s. You can run four downloads at a time. That keeps a large mod moving without one visitor taking the whole line.

The files sit on servers in Germany, at Hetzner, and traffic goes through Cloudflare. nginx streams the bytes.

What is here today

ModsDrop hosts my own library, the files behind crashmods.com, and since 8 October 2026 the mods that members upload.

Accounts are for mod authors: with one you can upload, follow your downloads and earn a share of the advertising on your files. Payouts are open from $10; there is no premium tier and no API — and downloading needs none of it.

Ads

Storage and traffic cost money, and mod files are large. Ads pay for that: since 7 October 2026 file pages show adverts (all from the Monetag network since 23 October 2026), and 70% of what a member’s own files earn goes to that member. The adverts are never dressed up as download buttons.

Privacy

Google Analytics was added in September 2026, so there is a Google script on every page for visitors who are not signed in. In Europe it stores nothing on your device until you say yes to the cookie question, and members are not measured at all. Apart from md_consent2, the cookie that keeps that answer, the site sets no cookies for logged-out visitors. All of it, including what the server itself records, is on the privacy page.

Reports and copyright

Every file page has a report form. Use it for a broken file, a wrong description, or something that should not be here. Reports are e-mailed to me.

If you are a mod author and your work is here without your permission, the DMCA page says what to send and where. I deal with those myself. There is nobody else to pass them to.

ModsDrop has no track record yet, because it opened today. What it has is a simple idea: host the files properly, show people what they are about to download, and keep everything else out of the way.
