Euro Truck Simulator 2 1.62 open beta: new garages, three DAF XG+ editions, and what it means for mods

SCS Software opened the 1.62 public beta of Euro Truck Simulator 2 on 22 October 2026. It is a smaller update than 1.60’s lighting overhaul, and that is good news for anyone with a mod folder: the changes are mostly new content rather than new systems. Here is what is in it, how to try it, and what to think about before you drag your 1.61 mods into a beta.
New garages everywhere
Every truck garage on the base map and in all the map expansions gets a new model, inside and out. SCS says the new garages were built so that the performance cost stays in line with the old ones, which matters because the garage is the place you load into most often. If you use a map mod that places its own garages, those keep whatever model the mod ships with; only the official garages change.
Three special DAF XG+ editions
The DAF XG+ gets an Emerald Edition and a Sapphire Edition: green and blue paint, exclusive exterior accessories and interiors designed for each. A third version, the 30 Years in Czechia Edition, marks three decades of DAF in the Czech Republic with an anniversary design, unique exterior details and an interior with its own upholstery and stitching. All three are official content, so they will not clash with the many DAF tuning mods out there, but a mod that replaces the XG+ interior wholesale will of course override the special interiors too.
Improved Material System reaches the Iveco S-Way
The material system introduced with 1.60 is being rolled out truck by truck, and in 1.62 the Iveco S-Way interior is the one to get it: better lighting response, more convincing surfaces, and the usual focus on how the interior materials react to light. This is the change most likely to affect mods. If you run an interior mod for the S-Way, expect it to look off under the new materials until its author updates it. Exterior accessory mods and paint jobs are not affected.
Smaller items
- The Goodyear Tyres Pack paint jobs were updated to the current Goodyear logo, with slightly adjusted colours.
- The in-game radio station Escape, which SCS describes as the only stream-safe station in the line-up, lost the tracks that caused copyright trouble and gained eleven new songs, so its playlist now runs about as long as the other stations.
The post lists no gameplay changes and no bug-fix list; those usually arrive with the final release notes.
How to join the beta
In Steam, open your Library, right-click Euro Truck Simulator 2 and choose Properties, go to Game Versions & Betas, and pick public_beta from the Beta Participation list. If the branch is not listed, restart Steam and look again. SCS is clear that this is a beta: bugs, instability and crashes are possible, and waiting for the final release is a perfectly good choice. Bug reports go to the beta section of the SCS forum.
Mods and the beta, in practice
SCS points mod users to the modding wiki and leaves it at that, so here is the routine that has saved more profiles than any other:
- Copy your profile first. Profiles live under Documents\Euro Truck Simulator 2\profiles (or steam_profiles). A profile saved on 1.62 may not open again on 1.61 if you switch back, so keep a copy made on the old version.
- Expect most mods to work. Nothing in this update changes the map structure, the economy or the truck definitions in a way that breaks maps, trailers, sounds or paint jobs. The version check in the mod manager will still flag mods marked for 1.61; that flag is a warning, not a verdict.
- Watch two kinds of mod. Interior mods for the Iveco S-Way, because of the new materials, and anything that edits garage definitions, because the garage models changed.
- Read the game version on the mod’s page. Files on ModsDrop show the game version their author tested on their crashmods.com page. A mod labelled 1.61 is fine to try; a mod labelled 1.5x deserves a careful look at its comments first.
When 1.62 goes final we will update this post with the full changelog and any mod-compatibility notes from the release.
