The mod glossary: JBeam, .pc, .scs, modDesc, CSP, add-on, lite, ticket and sixty other terms, by game

Mod pages assume you know the vocabulary, and the vocabulary differs by game. This is the list we wish every file page linked to: the terms you meet on ModsDrop and on the mods’ own pages, in plain words, grouped by where you will see them. Bookmark it; we will add to it.
Files and formats
- zip: the archive format BeamNG, the truck games and Farming Simulator read directly. Keep it zipped for those games.
- 7z, rar: other archive formats. Extract and repack to zip for games that read zips; extract for games that want folders.
- .scs: Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator’s native mod archive, a zip under another name.
- SHA-256: a 64-character fingerprint of a file’s exact contents; shown on every file page here. Same hash, same file.
- Lite version: a smaller build of a mod, usually with lower-resolution textures or fewer configurations.
- Standalone: a mod that adds new content next to the game’s own rather than overwriting it. Opposite: replacement (or replace in GTA V); GTA’s word for standalone is add-on.
- Dependency / requires: another mod that must be installed for this one to work.
- Conversion / port: a mod moved from another game or game version. Needs the original author’s permission.
- Reupload: someone else’s mod hosted without permission. Reportable.
BeamNG.drive
- JBeam: the text format describing a vehicle’s physical structure, parts, weights and powertrain. The physics “recipe”.
- Node, beam: a point with mass, and the spring connecting two of them. A car is thousands of each.
- Soft-body: physics where the structure deforms node by node, rather than swapping damage models.
- .pc: a part configuration, one complete set of part choices for a vehicle. A config pack is a set of them.
- Skin: a texture painted over a car’s body, registered as a selectable part.
- Parts mod: new parts (engines, kits, wheels) for an existing car, extending its parts tree.
- Level: BeamNG’s word for a map.
- User folder: where mods, settings and the cache live, under
%LOCALAPPDATA%\BeamNG.drive\<version>; the launcher opens it. - Mod Manager, Repository: the in-game list of your mods, and the in-game browser of mods hosted by BeamNG.
- Safe Mode, Clear Cache: launcher functions that start without mods, and delete the game’s derived data.
- Unpacked: a mod kept as loose files instead of a zip, for editing.
- Traffic: AI vehicles, each a full simulation; the main CPU cost.
- BeamMP: the community multiplayer system. Servers set the mod list.
- UI app: a HUD element written as web code; the mod type most affected by 0.40.
- World Editor: the built-in tool for making and editing maps (PC only).
Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator
- Mod Manager: the per-profile list where mods are activated and ordered. Higher in the list has priority.
- Load order: the sequence mods override each other in; the cause of most map-mod problems.
- def: the definitions folder inside a mod, where vehicles, companies, cargo and paint jobs are declared.
- manifest.sii: the mod’s description file, including the game version it declares.
- Version warning: the Mod Manager’s note that a mod was made for a different game version. Advice, not a block, most of the time.
- Owned trailer, company trailer: a trailer you buy and keep, versus one that comes with a freight-market job.
- Cargo market, freight market: jobs for your own trailer, versus jobs that provide the trailer.
- g_traffic: the traffic density setting, default 1.0.
- FMOD, .bank: the audio engine since 1.37 and its sound file format; the reason old sound mods died.
- Improved Material System: the interior lighting and material rendering introduced in 1.60 and extended truck by truck since.
- Convoy: the official multiplayer for up to eight players with matching mods. TruckersMP: the community network with large servers and cosmetic-mods-only rules.
- ProMods: the largest community map project for ETS2, requiring the official map expansions.
- Profile: a career, with its own mod list, under
Documents\...\profiles. - Open beta / public_beta: the Steam branch where the next version is tested before release.
Farming Simulator 25
- ModHub: GIANTS’ curated official mod catalogue, in-game and on the web; the only source on consoles.
- modDesc.xml: the mod’s description file, with its name, author, version and descVersion (the game generation it targets).
- .i3d: GIANTS’ 3D model format.
- GIANTS Editor: the official tool for maps and models; a new version per game generation.
- Specialisation: a building block of vehicle behaviour in scripts (fillable, foldable, mower, and so on).
- Mod selection screen: where mods are ticked per savegame, and where conflicts and dependencies are shown.
- log.txt: the game’s log in
Documents\My Games\FarmingSimulator2025. - Dedicated server: a standalone multiplayer server with a web interface for mods.
- loadstring: a Lua function disabled in patch 1.24; script mods that used it broke.
GTA V and Assetto Corsa
- Script Hook V, ScriptHookVDotNet: the frameworks that let .asi and .NET scripts run in GTA V.
- OpenIV, mods folder: the archive editor and its feature that keeps edited game files separate from the originals.
- .asi, .dll: native code plugins. Real programs; judge accordingly.
- Legacy, Enhanced: GTA V’s two PC editions since March 2025, with separate mod support.
- Content Manager: the community launcher for Assetto Corsa that installs and manages mods.
- CSP (Custom Shaders Patch): the graphics and features extension most modern Assetto Corsa mods require.
- Sol, Pure: weather and lighting systems built on CSP.
- .kn5: Assetto Corsa’s model format.
- EVO: Assetto Corsa EVO, the 2025 successor with its own, separate mod format.
ModsDrop
- File page:
modsdrop.com/f/<code>/, the permanent address of a file. Share this. - Generate link, signed link: the download address is signed and works for about six hours, long enough to resume a big file.
- Your file is ready: the second step, with the Download button and nothing else.
- Scan line: the VirusTotal result on each page, with the number of engines.
- Report: the link for problems with a file itself; reviewed by a person.
- 70% share: what uploaders receive of the advertising on their files, split by finished downloads weighted by country.
- Finished download: a download through the page where the file actually reached the visitor, counted once per visitor; the unit uploaders are paid on.
- Takedown, trash, blocklist: a removed file, its three-day holding period, and the fingerprint list that stops re-upload.
