Moon Sweepers 1.0.5 Patch Reworks Building and Fixes Load-In Freeze

Moon Sweepers got its 1.0.5 patch on 28 October 2026, and it changes how you build more than any update so far. The headline fix is a freeze some players hit shortly after loading their world, but the building rework is what you’ll notice first once you’re back in.

You can now build straight onto dusty ground. The game flattens the dust under a piece as you place it, so there’s no more scraping ground clean before you start. Aiming at a foundation’s top, underside or side lets you build on, under or beside it, and pieces can even stick out past an edge into open air.

Move Mode and refunds

Press R with the building tool and you can pick up a piece along with anything standing on it, then set it down again for free. Belts attached to its ports try to follow along where they can. Right-click puts the piece back where it was, X drops you into remove mode, and R or Esc ends the whole thing. On controller, Y does the same job from remove mode.

Removing a piece now hands back its full cost instead of the old 75%, so repositioning your base costs a lot less than it used to. Middle-clicking a piece to copy it now also grabs its rotation and style, and machines like the Stone Press snap to foundations on their own, lining up flush or centred and turning in 90° steps (30° on hex foundations). Press F if you’d rather place them freely.

J.O.O.N.A.S. and performance

J.O.O.N.A.S. now spreads capsules across the emptiest catcher in a nearby group instead of stacking one catcher while its neighbor sits empty, and only moves to the next group once every catcher nearby is over 80% full. The patch also kills a bug where cleaned hexes far from players would get stuck at 99.9% forever, and fixes a dead spot J.O.O.N.A.S. could leave behind where nothing could be built.

Capsules on the ground are no longer capped at 10,000, so a world can now hold up to 90,000 total. Big bases should stutter less thanks to fewer garbage collection hitches, and there’s a fix for capsules refusing to pack when a base has a lot of them moving on belts.

What this means for your save

There’s no mention of mod support changes in this patch, so if you’re not running any mods you can just update and keep playing. The freeze-on-load fix and the garbage collection improvements are the kind of changes that typically affect performance across the board rather than specific saves, so there shouldn’t be anything to back up before installing. If something about your base looks off after updating, like a foundation refusing to let you build a row of machines, check whether it was one of the listed fixes before assuming it’s new.
