How to report a file on ModsDrop, how a copyright report is checked, and what happens to a confirmed file

Every file page on ModsDrop has a Report link. It is for anything wrong with the file itself: your mod uploaded without your permission, an archive that contains something it should not, a download that is not what the page says, content that should not be online at all. Here is what happens after you press it, what to include so the review goes quickly, and what the outcomes are.
What you can report
- Copyright / DMCA: the file is your work (or work you represent) and was uploaded without permission.
- Malware or virus: the archive contains an executable, a suspicious script, or your scanner flags it.
- Broken or wrong file: the download is corrupted every time, or it is not the mod the page describes.
- Illegal content: anything that should not be hosted anywhere.
- Other, and a message option for anything that is not a report.
What happens when you press Send
- The report is saved immediately with the file it refers to, and the site’s operator is notified the same minute.
- If you left an e-mail address, you receive an automatic acknowledgement saying the report arrived and what the review involves. It is a short, fixed message; nothing you wrote is echoed back to you.
- A person reviews it, usually within 24 hours, longer at weekends. Reports of illegal content and malware are reviewed first.
- You receive a reply with the outcome, to the address you gave. Without an address we still act, but cannot tell you what we did.
How a copyright report is checked
We look at the file, not just the page. For a BeamNG vehicle that means the author fields inside the JBeam files and the info.json; for truck-sim mods the manifest and definition headers; for Farming Simulator mods the modDesc.xml author and the model files; for any mod, readmes, credits and the source the file came from. Reuploaders rarely bother to rewrite all of these, which is why the check usually settles the question in minutes. We also look at whether the mod is sold or offered on the author’s own channels, because a paid mod shared for free is a clear case regardless of who reports it.
What happens to a confirmed file
- The file is taken down: its page disappears and existing download tickets stop working within hours.
- The file goes to a three-day trash, during which it is not downloadable but can be restored if a removal turns out to be a mistake and someone proves authorship. After three days it is deleted permanently.
- Its fingerprint is blocked, so the same file cannot be re-uploaded under another name.
- The mod’s page on crashmods.com, the site we work closely with, is removed as well, and their uploader policy applies: a warning, or a ban after repeated warnings, which can include an IP ban.
- Where the file came through an automatic import, the creator’s name goes on the import blocklist, so their mods are no longer brought in from other sites.
What makes a report fast
- The file page address (it is filled in automatically when you report from the page).
- Where the original lives: your page on the official repository, your Patreon, your site. One link is enough.
- If your name is not inside the files (some authors do not fill the fields), one sentence on how you can show it is yours: a dated screenshot of your work-in-progress, the original project file, anything a reuploader would not have.
- Other copies you know of on this site, so they can be handled together.
You do not need a lawyer, a formal DMCA notice or a sworn statement to get a file reviewed; a clear report from the author is enough. A formal notice is still accepted if you prefer to send one, through the contact page.
False reports
Reports are checked precisely because they can be wrong, or malicious. A report that names a file as yours when the files inside carry someone else’s name, or that comes from a competitor rather than an author, is declined with an explanation. The three-day trash exists for the rare case where a wrong removal gets through.
Reports that are really support questions
“The mod crashes my game” is not a report about the file; it is feedback for the mod’s author, whose channel is on the mod’s page. The guide on reporting a broken mod explains how to send one that gets a fix. Use the Report link here when the file is the problem: corrupted on every download, not what the page says, or something that should not be hosted.
Your data
The report stores your message, the address you gave and the time. It is used to review the file and to answer you, and for nothing else. The privacy policy describes retention.
