How to install Farming Simulator 25 mods on PC: the mods folder, the zip-name rule and what patches 1.24 and 1.25 changed

Farming Simulator 25 makes mod installation easy and then undoes the good work with a handful of rules nobody tells you about: the zip must stay a zip, its name must be plain, and two patches this autumn changed what script mods may do. This is the PC guide, written for the game as it stands after patch 1.25.
The mods folder
On Windows it is Documents\My Games\FarmingSimulator2025\mods. The folder is created the first time the game starts, so if it is not there, run the game once. Mods go in as zip files, exactly as downloaded. The game does not read unpacked folders, and it does not read a zip that contains another zip; if your download is a zip with an inner zip, move the inner one into the folder.
The file name matters
FS25 refuses zips whose names contain spaces, brackets or other special characters, and it does so silently: the mod is simply absent from the list. Rename My Tractor (v2).zip to MyTractor_v2.zip and it appears. Letters, digits and underscores are safe. A file that starts with a digit is fine.
Switching mods on
Start the game, choose Career, select your savegame, and click Mods (the icon with the puzzle piece) before pressing Start. Every zip in the folder is listed with a checkbox and, importantly, a status. Three statuses are worth knowing:
- A warning icon: the mod is marked for an older game version or uses a function the game has changed. It may still work.
- A conflict message: two mods declare the same name or change the same base item. Only one can be active.
- “Unsupported” or no entry at all: the zip name or structure is wrong, or the download is incomplete.
Tick what you want, press Start, and the mods load with the savegame. Mods are remembered per savegame.
Script mods after patches 1.24 and 1.25
Patch 1.24 on 29 September disabled the Lua loadstring function for security reasons, and marked getUniqueUserId() for removal with a warning in the log. Patch 1.25 on 20 October added a requiresPower option for moving tools. In practice: a script mod that worked in the summer and stopped in October was almost certainly using one of the removed functions, and only its author can fix it. Vehicles, maps, placeables and textures are not affected by either change. Before you report a script mod as broken, look for an update dated after 29 September.
Multiplayer and dedicated servers
When you join a multiplayer game, the mods the host uses are downloaded to you automatically; you do not install them yourself, and they land in the same mods folder. On a dedicated server, the server’s web interface has a Mods tab where the admin uploads zips; they must follow the same naming rules as on a PC. Players joining get them from the server.
When a mod does not appear
- Check the zip name for spaces and brackets.
- Check that it is a zip, not a folder, and not a zip inside a zip.
- Compare the file size with the size shown on the download page; a partial download is the most common cause of an “invisible” mod.
- Look in the mod selection screen for a conflict message naming another mod.
- Open the game’s
log.txtinDocuments\My Games\FarmingSimulator2025and search for the mod’s file name; the game writes a line explaining why it rejected a mod.
Removing a mod cleanly
Untick it in the mod selection screen, start the savegame once so it is saved without the mod, then delete the zip. Removing a map mod is different: a savegame on a modded map cannot be opened without that map, so keep the zip for as long as you want the save.
Console players
On PlayStation and Xbox the only route is the in-game ModHub. Files downloaded from a website cannot be installed on a console, which is why every FS25 file on ModsDrop is a PC file.
