Terms of Service
These terms apply to everyone who uses modsdrop.com. By using the site you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use it. Last updated: 8 October 2026, when uploading opened to every member.
1. Who you are dealing with
modsdrop.com is run by Máté Geszti (CrashMozi), a private individual living in Hungary — not a company. Postal address: XVII. utca 4., 5400 Mezőtúr. Email: [email protected]. The servers and the files are in Germany and traffic passes through Cloudflare. You can write in English or in Hungarian. The ways to get in touch are on the Contact page.
2. What the service is
- modsdrop.com is a file host for video game mods: a page describing a mod, and a download button that serves the file.
- Since 8 October 2026 any member can upload mods. You need a confirmed account; section 16 sets out the rules for uploading. There are no comments and no public profiles.
- Anyone can send in a report or a contact message, and anyone can register an account. Sections 3 and 4 say what an account is and what you agree to by having one.
- The site is new and still being built. Pages and features change, and parts of it may be incomplete or missing.
- Mods are made by third parties. Hosting a mod is not a statement that the operator wrote it, endorses it, or has tested it.
3. Free, and accounts
- Downloading is free. There is no charge, no subscription and no paywall.
- You still do not need an account to download. The download path is unchanged: you are not asked for your name, your email address or any other detail in order to get a file.
- Accounts are meant for mod authors. Registering is free as well. With an account you can upload and manage your own mods (section 16) and earn a share of the advertising on them. Payouts are open from $10 (section 16); there is no premium tier and no API.
- To register at /register/ you give a name (3 to 30 characters: letters, numbers, dot, dash or underscore), an email address and a password of at least ten characters, and you tick the boxes for these terms and the Privacy Policy. The form also carries a hidden field that people never see and bots fill in.
- WordPress stores a hash of your password, never the password itself. What else is kept about your account is set out in the Privacy Policy.
- You must confirm your email address before you can log in. A link is mailed to you and is good for 48 hours. At most four confirmation emails are sent per account, one every ten minutes. An account that is never confirmed is deleted automatically after seven days, by a job that runs daily.
- You can instead sign in with Google at /login/. The site then receives your email address, your Google display name and the identifier Google uses for your account. modsdrop.com never sees your Google password, and what you are shown and asked at that step is Google’s own consent screen, not this site’s.
- Registering and logging in are rate limited, all per network: three sign-ups an hour and ten a day; ten log-in attempts per fifteen minutes, and ten per account; three password-reset requests an hour; three confirmation emails re-sent an hour.
- No age check is made. The site does not ask your age anywhere, and no minimum age is set or enforced.
- You pay nothing and nothing is charged for an account, so there is no subscription to cancel and no notice to give on either side. You may stop using the site whenever you like, and have your account deleted — see section 4. The operator may stop offering the site — see section 11.
4. Your account
If you register, you also agree to the following.
- One account per person. Do not register a second one.
- Give accurate details. Use an email address that reaches you: it is how the account is confirmed, how a forgotten password is reset, and the only way the operator can write to you. Do not take a name meant to pass you off as someone else.
- What happens under your account is your responsibility. Keep your password to yourself, do not let anyone else use your account, and do not use anyone else’s. Do not try to get into an account that is not yours, and do not automate sign-ups or log-in attempts.
- You can change your password on /account/. You cannot change your email address yourself — ask through the Contact page.
- Members do not get into the WordPress admin area. Logging in takes you to /account/.
- Deleting your account: ask through the Contact page and the account and everything in it is deleted. There is no button on the site that does it for you.
- The operator may suspend or delete an account that is used to abuse the site — for instance to get round the download limits, to scrape, to send abusive reports or messages, or to break the content rules in section 7.
- Remember that an unconfirmed account is deleted automatically after seven days, so if you never open the confirmation link the account simply disappears.
5. Download links
- Clicking Download creates a signed link to the file. The link is valid for six hours and then stops working.
- That link is for your own download. Do not republish it — not on forums, not in chat servers, not on other mod sites, and not embedded in launchers, apps or tools. Link to the file’s page on modsdrop.com instead; linking to pages is welcome.
- Up to four downloads may run at the same time from one IP address, and requests to the site are rate limited. Going past those limits will get you slowed down or temporarily blocked. The limits exist to keep the site standing, not to catch anyone out. They apply the same way whether you are logged in or not.
- No automated mass downloading. Do not use crawlers, scrapers, mirroring tools or scripts to pull the catalogue or the files in bulk, and do not rebuild the catalogue elsewhere. Ordinary browsing, and a download manager used normally, are fine.
- Do not forge, extend, brute-force or otherwise tamper with signed links, and do not try to reach files other than through the site.
6. Files, virus scanning, and what is not promised
- Every uploaded file is checked with VirusTotal before it is published, and a file the engines flag is never published. A file over 650 MB cannot be sent to VirusTotal: it is published only after a person has opened the archive and found nothing but game files, and its page says so. Files carried over from crashmods.com carry the result recorded then. The file page always shows the true state for that file.
- A “clean” result means that at the moment of the check the engines used by VirusTotal reported nothing. It is not a guarantee, it is not a fresh check, and it says nothing about what a mod does once it is running.
- Mods are third-party software that modifies a game you own. They can crash the game, corrupt saved games, conflict with other mods and break after a game update. Back up your saves before installing anything.
- Use your own antivirus software. You install mods from this site at your own risk.
7. Content rules
Only mods and other game-related files may be uploaded — the site is not personal storage. The following have no place on modsdrop.com, whoever posts them:
- material that infringes copyright, trade marks or other rights, including reuploads of other people’s mods without permission, paid mods, and rips of paid or leaked content;
- adult or sexual content of any kind;
- files that are not game mods or game-related;
- game files, cracks, key generators, pirated builds, and tools whose purpose is to defeat technical protection measures or licensing;
- malware, miners, droppers, installers that bundle unwanted software, and archives that do something other than what the page says;
- content that is illegal under Hungarian or EU law, including child sexual abuse material, terrorist content, and incitement to hatred or violence;
- other people’s personal data; and
- material whose purpose is to harass or defame a particular person.
If the operator learns of something that suggests a criminal offence involving a threat to someone’s life or safety has happened, is happening or is likely to happen, he will pass it to the competent authorities. Article 18 of the Digital Services Act puts that duty on hosting services that store other people’s content; and since members can upload, that duty applies here in full.
8. Game names, trade marks and affiliation
Game titles, studio and publisher names, logos, box art, screenshots and in-game assets belong to their respective owners and appear here only to identify which game a mod is for. modsdrop.com is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by or connected to any game publisher or developer. No claim is made to anyone else’s marks. If you own a mark used on the site and object to how it appears, see the Copyright and content complaints page.
9. Reporting content
Every file page carries a report link. Copyright complaints and reports of other illegal content go through the Copyright and content complaints page. Anything else goes through the Contact page. You do not need an account to send any of them.
- What a report stores: the reason you pick, your message (up to 4000 characters), your email address if you give one, and the IP address you sent it from.
- On the report form on a file page the email address is optional. Leave it blank and there is no way to reply to you, so you will hear nothing back. On the Contact form and on the copyright complaint form an email address is required, for the same reason.
- Reports are saved on the site as private entries that only the operator can see, and are emailed to him through Brevo, an email provider in the EU. They are deleted automatically 24 months after they arrive, by a job that runs daily. The Privacy Policy explains what is kept and for how long.
- The complaints page sits at /dmca/ because that is the word people search for. The operator is in the EU and has not registered a designated agent with the US Copyright Office, so he does not claim the US DMCA safe harbour. Notices are handled under Hungarian and EU law.
10. Removing content and restricting access
- The operator may remove or restrict access to any file or page — because of a valid notice, an order from an authority, a breach of these terms, or because he no longer wishes to host it. It is his site and his bandwidth.
- Removal means the file’s page is taken down, and that kills the download link with it — including a signed link that was already issued and still inside its six hours.
- The operator may block or throttle an IP address or range that is abusing the site, for instance by ignoring the download limits or by scraping.
- He may also suspend or delete an account used to abuse the site — see section 4.
- When an uploader’s file is removed or restricted, the uploader is told why by email — what was done, the reason, and whether it followed a notice — and can challenge the decision through the Copyright and content complaints page. Section 16 covers repeated infringements.
11. Availability
The site is offered as it stands, free of charge, with no promise that it will be available at any particular time, that downloads will run at any particular speed, or that it will continue to exist. Maintenance, technical failures, and hosting or network problems may make it unavailable without notice, and the operator may change or close the service. Having an account changes none of that. Nothing here obliges him to keep a file online, or to keep a copy of it, for any length of time. Keep your own copy of anything you care about.
12. Cookies, logs, analytics and advertising
- Google Analytics runs on the site for visitors who are not logged in, on every page including the download path. Logged-in members are not measured. In Europe the tag is started in consent mode and stores nothing on your device; elsewhere it sets Google’s own cookies. Apart from that the site sets no cookies of its own for logged-out visitors, and the adverts described below come from Monetag’s servers. The Privacy Policy sets it out in full.
- Logging in sets WordPress login cookies for that member. They are what keeps you logged in, and they do nothing else. Signed-in members are not measured by Analytics at all; what the site does measure, and what it asks of a visitor who is not signed in, is set out on the privacy page.
- WordPress also records, for each logged-in session, the session token, the IP address and the browser user-agent string the log-in came from, in that account’s own data. That is how WordPress works, the site does not hide it, and the Privacy Policy covers it.
- There is no consent banner yet. Instead, the Analytics tag is started in a mode that stores nothing on a European visitor’s device while no consent has been given, and the site’s own cookies are limited to the ones that keep a logged-in member logged in. A banner will come with the advertising, and then it will govern the Analytics tag too.
- The server keeps access logs, as web servers do: the IP address, the time, the request, the browser user-agent string and the number of bytes sent. They are rotated and deleted after fourteen days. That happens whether you are logged in or not. The markers used for the download limits and the download counter are not the address itself: they are a salted hash of your IPv4 address or of your IPv6 /64, and they expire within the hour.
- Since 7 October 2026 there is advertising; since 23 October 2026 all of it comes from the Monetag network: on file pages a small notification-style box, a full-screen banner that can be closed, browser notifications only if you allow them, and an advert that the first press of Generate link or Download opens in a new tab, at most once in six hours per file and browser. The download is never blocked or delayed by any of them. What Monetag does on its own servers and pages is covered by its own privacy policy; the Privacy Policy describes the adverts in full.
- The Privacy Policy sets out what happens to your data, including your account details, the IP addresses that appear in the server logs and the salted hashes used for the download limits. It was updated when advertising started, on 7 October 2026.
13. Liability
- What is never excluded. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for damage caused intentionally or by gross negligence, for damage to human life, bodily integrity or health, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. Your mandatory rights as a consumer under the law of the country where you live are unaffected by anything written here.
- What is excluded. Beyond that, and so far as the law allows for a service supplied free of charge, the operator is not liable for loss or damage arising from your use of the site or of files obtained through it — in particular damaged or lost saved games, lost data or time, damage caused by third-party mods to your software or hardware, lost profit, or the site being unavailable.
- Third-party material. The operator is not responsible for what third-party mods do, nor for the content of external sites linked from here.
- No professional advice. Installation notes on the site are informal guidance, not a promise that a mod will work with your setup.
14. Changes to these terms
These terms will change — when a premium tier opens, for example. The current version is always on this page, with the date it was last updated at the top. There are accounts now, but there is still no mailing list and no announcement email: the only mail the site sends a member is about their own account — the confirmation link, and a password reset they asked for. So there is still no way to tell you personally: if it matters to you, check this page. If you do not agree with a change, stop using the site; if you have an account, ask through the Contact page for it to be deleted.
15. Law, courts and complaints
- These terms, and any dispute arising out of them, are governed by Hungarian law.
- The operator is a private individual and charges nothing, so it is not settled that consumer law applies to this site at all. Where it does apply, it wins: the choice of Hungarian law does not take away the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where you habitually live, you may bring proceedings either in the courts of the country where you live or in Hungary as you prefer, and the operator may bring proceedings against you only in the courts of the country where you live.
- Free consumer dispute schemes are built for disputes with businesses, so they may not be open against a private individual. If consumer law does apply here, a Hungarian consumer can ask the conciliation body (békéltető testület) for their county whether it will take the case, and a consumer elsewhere in the EU can ask the European Consumer Centre in their own country. Neither of those is the operator’s to promise, so neither is promised here. The European Commission’s online dispute resolution platform closed in July 2025, so there is no longer an EU-wide ODR website to use.
- If you disagree with a decision to remove or restrict something, or to suspend or delete an account, write to the operator through the Copyright and content complaints page. That page says what he does with such a complaint.
16. Uploading
Since 8 October 2026 anyone with a confirmed account can upload. By uploading you agree to the following.
- Only game mods and game-related files. Anything else is removed, and earns nothing.
- You must have the right to upload it. By uploading you confirm that the mod is your own work, or that its author has allowed it to be shared here. Paid mods may not be uploaded, and neither may anything that breaks section 7.
- You are responsible for what you upload, not the operator. You keep your rights in it, and you give the operator permission to store it, show its page and let people download it through the site for as long as it is up.
- Checked before it goes public. Every file is checked with VirusTotal first (section 6), and one the engines flag stays private. A file over 650 MB waits until a person has looked at it.
- Limits: up to 6 GB per file. There is no limit on how much you store in total.
- A file taken down stays down. The site remembers the fingerprint of every file it removed for a rights complaint, a breach of these rules or malware, and the same file cannot be published again under another name.
- Three strikes. If three of your uploads are removed for infringing someone’s rights or for breaking section 7, your account is closed and your files are taken down. Malware, and the content in the last three points of section 7, close the account at once.
- Earnings. Uploaders receive 70% of what the advertising earns on their own files: each day’s advertising revenue is shared out by each file’s finished downloads that day. Your account shows the figures. Payouts: on the 3rd of each month your share of the month before is booked to your balance, once the advertising network has corrected its figures. From $10 you can ask for it on the Payments page; it is sent by hand to the PayPal, Payoneer or USDT details you saved, usually within a few days, and USDT network fees come off the amount. Earnings from traffic that turns out to be faked are taken back, before or after a payout.
- No cheating. Inflating downloads or advert views — bots, scripts, bought traffic, download managers, several accounts — forfeits the earnings involved and closes the account. Earnings already credited can be taken back if they turn out to come from such traffic.
- Removal and challenges. If your file is removed or restricted you are told why (section 10) and can challenge the decision. Abusive or knowingly false notices against other people’s files are themselves a breach of these terms.
- Closing your account takes your files down with it.
17. The rest
- If any part of these terms turns out to be invalid, the rest continues to apply.
- Not enforcing a rule on one occasion does not mean it has been given up.
- These terms, the Privacy Policy and the Copyright and content complaints page are the rules for using the site. If something said elsewhere conflicts with them, these pages are the ones that count.
- These terms are published in English. If a translation is published later, the English version governs, except where the law of the country where you live requires otherwise.
