Apex Legends Bans 905 Accounts Over Rookie Rank Ranked Exploit

Respawn’s Anti-Cheat team posted an update on Steam on November 4, 2026, about a Ranked exploit in Apex Legends. The bug let some players, mostly on PlayStation 5, queue into Ranked matches showing up as Rookie IV no matter what their real rank was.

That fake Rookie status came with real perks. Affected players skipped the Ranked entry cost, got Rookie-tier kill bonuses, had their Matchmaking Rating logged as 0, and still kept the RP they earned applied to their actual Ranked score. Respawn says this broke the fairness of Ranked progression for everyone else.

What Respawn did about it

The team says it found the root cause and shipped a fix to stop the exploit from being used again. After that, it looked into which accounts had actually benefited from it and went after the ones that used it deliberately and heavily, rather than everyone who happened to touch it.

In total, 905 accounts got banned, with the length tied to how much RP they illegitimately gained:

By platform, the bans break down as 12 on PC, 848 on PlayStation, 44 on Xbox, and 2 on Nintendo Switch 2. Respawn also says it deducted a combined 15,112,554 RP from affected accounts.

Who got a pass

Respawn says some players likely ran into this without meaning to abuse anything, and that its investigation was able to tell those cases apart from intentional exploitation. Accounts in that unintentional category were not banned.

As the team put it: “Ranked integrity depends on a fair and consistent competitive environment.” Respawn also says it will keep watching Ranked for similar issues and keep patching holes that could be used to mess with competitive standing.

What this means if you play Ranked

Apex Legends runs on strict anti-cheat and doesn’t have a community modding scene to speak of, so there’s no mod compatibility angle here. This is purely about account standing and matchmaking fairness.

If you play Ranked, the practical takeaway is simple: don’t touch anything that looks like it’s skipping entry costs or messing with your displayed rank, even if it seems like a harmless quirk. Respawn has shown it can retroactively trace RP gains back to a specific exploit and adjust totals, so any shortcut that feels off is worth reporting instead of using.
